What is a good store-bought medicine or home remedy to help relieve or cure a cough?

I had a very cold about a week and now is the cough worse. It's one of those deep, strong, "horse" cough. If I get the slightest tickle or irritation in the throat, I must a very bad cough. Sometimes I cough so hard I lose my breath, nausea or eyes with water. Not to mention my ribs and stomach muscles unbelievablably pain now. This is not a cough coward! I am NOT coughing anything yet. I think it is a dry cough. A few days ago may be a bit of mucus in the throat and chest, but I do not think there's so much more. It feels more dry than anything. I tried everything to calm my cough and chest, but nothing has worked. I have been forced to stay until the last 2 nights I cough almost to death all night! I want to sleep! Please someone help the sore throat goes away so I'll stop coughing! Need a miracle.

Ive said ginger tea (to find a way to do it) is supposed to help but is not it nice tasting.menthol help with cough and congestion.or sit in the bathroom with the shower as hot as possible for you to breathe in the steam.that also helps.
