does calcium inhibit iron absorption?
I've been putting my son's Poly-Vi-Sol w/ Iron vitamins in his milk cup every morning, but another mother just told me not to put his vitamins in milk because calcium inhibits iron absorption.
I don't see how it would make such a difference from giving him the vitamins directly from the dropper, then giving him a glass of milk to drink.
Have you heard of such a thing?
You are right, giving him a glass of milk afterward would do the same thing (inhibit iron absorption). Mix it with a glass of orange juice (helps iron absorption) and wait three hours before giving any dairy.
